Popup at Ullsholmen (Project)
What would be the most ordinary piece and spectacle in the urban context? What is one of the most ordinary activities we do every day? What happens when we put the most ordinary piece in our social relations to a desert rock island?
We have experimented with the concept of the most ordinary in the most unordinary context and investigated how the spectacle would unfold. The project was in conjunction with the Secret Island Nation rave festival in the remote archipelago on the West Coast of Sweden. We set up a three-day clay oven pizza restaurant on the far-out, secluded rock during the festival to experiment with how word of mouth alone would bring festival participants to jump between the rock islands to find this unexpected hidden pizza restaurant.
The pizza oven was built and installed with the mud from the island location and installed on the rocks. The pizza pop-up restaurant was a successful event leaving the visitors somewhat pleasantly stunned at the existence of such an ordinary spectacle of a mythical restaurant in such a location far out in the sea. The project was done in the summer of 2015 by a group of artists and chefs led by Torsten Imottesjo.
